Peter Hinds (1940-2016)

Date | 9th Feb 2016, attending 0 out of 0

A stalwart of Houston Cricket, Peter Hinds, left us Monday February 1. Peter was one of the founding members of the Houston Cricket League back in 1982. Houston West Indies was one of the founding teams with Peter Hinds the first captain. This put a West Indian presence in the League and the team was able to win championships. A gentle person, liked by all, Peter continued to play until 2000. In 2001, Peter got very sick, close to the point of dying. That year the Peter Hinds Tournament, now in its 15th year, was founded in his honour to provide funds for his medical treatment. A survivor, Peter recovered and continued to support the Houston Cricket League and turned out to support Houston West Indies up to 2014. As he weakened, Peter could not attend games in 2015 but showed up for the 2015 the Peter Hinds Tournament. A native of Jamaica, Peter had distinguished himself as a solid left-handed wicket-keeper batsman and captain in Jamaica, England and the USA. May his soul rest in peace.
